The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would step back as senior working royals in January 2020

Prince Harry and Prince William’s “inseparable bond was a myth” as the Duke of Sussex was “very unhappy” in the Royal Family, according to a royal expert.

The brothers are thought to not be on speaking terms after their relationship became strained following the Duke of Sussex’s announcement that he will step back as a senior working royal in January 2020.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzgerald highlighted the suggestion that the pair underwent a turbulent time while in the UK.

Speaking on the relationship between the brothers, Fitzwilliams said: “Harry was very unhappy.

“If you read Spare, it is clear that his relationship with William is not what we thought.

“The inseparable brothers were a myth.”

In March 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex publicly spoke out about their experiences while working as royals in an infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on ITV.

Harry and Meghan discussed their relationship with senior members of the Royal Family, with Meghan accusing the firm of racism and bullying towards her.

He said: “They felt that they were being briefed against.

“The world, in my opinion, should not have been told this in that way.

“But they were, and I don’t think anyone’s mentorship would have made any difference to what actually happened because I don’t think Meghan was suited for the role.

Fitzwilliam’s concluded: “Meghan only lasted about a year and a half as a senior working royal before they indicated that they were unhappy.

The fact that she was so used to the red carpet and the audience, it was thought she and Harry would be perfect for the role.

“She was, of course, deeply unhappy.

“I wouldn’t put a specific reason behind it because Harry was unhappy too, and I think Meghan provided the way out in a sense.”
