Prince George could one day follow in the footsteps of his dad and inherit an important title.
Prince George is the eldest child of Prince William and Princess Kate, and stands poised to inherit one of the most significant titles in royal history one day.
The 11-year-old young royal would follow in the footsteps of his dad, who currently holds the title, and his grandfather King Charles, who held the title from 1958 to 2022.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, broadcaster and author, Huw Thomas said: “I’d be stunned if it disappeared, only because the monarchy is built on tradition.
“It may not be an inherited title, but it is the tradition that the monarch gives their son the title Prince of Wales.”
The royal expert added that King Charles “barely waited 24 hours” before passing the title on to William.
He added: “And you would be surprised that if in future William thought, ‘now I’m going to kind of ditch this one’
During his time as the Prince of Wales, the now King championed environmental causes alongside numerous charitable initiatives. Under his management, the Duchy of Cornwall used sustainable agricultural practices, such as eco-friendly farming.
He started his charity The Prince’s Trust in 1976 with his Navy severance pay of just over £7,000.
The Royal website claims this has “helped over 875,000 disadvantaged young people into employment or business.”
When Prince George eventually ascends to this role, he will not only inherit the name, but also the responsibilities and expectations that come with it.
It is expected that, as he grows older, Prince George will assume a more public-facing role in charity work, state occasions, and diplomacy, stepping into his father’s and grandfather’s shoes.
Writing in the biography ‘Battle of Brothers’, royal expert and historian Robert Lacey explained: “William has not revealed to the world how and when he broke the big news to his son [George]. Maybe one day George will tell us the story himself.”
The royal historian added: “But sometime around the boy’s seventh birthday in the summer of 2020, it is thought that his parents went into more detail about what the little prince’s life of future royal ‘service and duty’ would particularly involve.”
Prince William, and Princess Kate, kept the major secret about Prince George’s future when he was little, meaning he was unaware that one day he would become monarch.
