The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 is set to kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony on February 8 at BC Place in Vancouver.

The event will feature performances from Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Noah Kahan, and Roxanne Bruneau, adding a touch of star power to the international sporting event.

This year’s Games, running from February 8 to 16, mark a historic first by incorporating winter sports alongside traditional adaptive competitions. More than 500 competitors from 23 nations will take part in events such as wheelchair rugby and alpine skiing. The UK’s ITV will broadcast the Games, offering widespread coverage of the inspiring competition.

Prince Harry’s role in shaping the event
As the founder and patron of the Invictus Games, Prince Harry has played an active role in curating the opening ceremony lineup. Robyn McVicker, chief operating officer of the Games, confirmed his involvement, revealing that he had direct input in selecting the headlining performers.

“We’ve kept him posted about shortlists and what we’re talking about. He’s had input,” McVicker told PEOPLE magazine.

She added that the event organizers were honored by the number of artists eager to support the Invictus movement.

Chris Martin’s connection to the Games goes beyond this performance-he previously composed the Invictus Games anthem in 2014, which plays during medal ceremonies. Meanwhile, Katy Perry, who performed at King Charles’s coronation concert in 2023, has developed a friendship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as they are close neighbors in Montecito, California.

Other artists in the lineup also share ties with the royal family. Nelly Furtado was personally invited by Prince Harry to perform at the Concert for Diana in 2007, where she recalled seeing him dance to her hit song Say It Right.

The Invictus Games Foundation recently announced a broadcast partnership with ITV, ensuring extensive coverage of the competition. The collaboration includes nine daily highlight shows available on ITVX, capturing both the sports action and the emotional stories of the athletes.

Sam Newell, Director of Communications for the Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.

Looking ahead, the Games will return to the UK in 2027, marking the 10-year anniversary of the event in Birmingham. Prince Harry has long championed the transformative power of sport, calling it a tool that can “heal, change lives, and save lives.”
