EXCLUSIVE: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry live in an area that is susceptible to natural disasters, but even so, it’s better than England, says one royal expert.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live in an area of the world that is not immune to freak weather patterns that can sometimes be dangerous.
While Montecito, California, is far away from Los Angeles, where wildfires continue to rage, residents have to be on alert throughout the year. Last year, intense flooding led to evacuations in the celebrity enclave.
Royal expert Pauline Maclaran told Daily Express US she doesn’t predict the royal couple to pack up and move – even though California has dangerous weather.
Maclaran, Professor of Consumer Research and Marketing at Royal Holloway, said: “Certainly California is riskier than the UK for natural disasters, but I think Harry’s main fear has always been the intrusive media interest in them in the UK and that’s his main security fear so we can’t really make a straight comparison.”
She added: “I also doubt they’ll be leaving California on account of this as they seem pretty settled.”
Yesterday, the Sussexes released a statement, expressing their concern for those who have been impacted by the wildfires, offering resources and tips to those who may be in a position to help.
And just today, it’s being reported they have opened up their home to friends who had to evacuate.
Maclaran said their response was “appropriate and in line with their humanitarian credentials.”
The statement read: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
“A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas.”
The statement continued with a three-prong plan on how to help those who may be in a vulnerable position:
