Another Super Bowl is officially in the books, and as usual, surprised and delighted viewers at home with the unexpected. One unexpected moment came courtesy of Serena Williams, who attended the Super Bowl on February 9 not only as a spectator, but as part of the televised event’s hotly anticipated Halftime Show—and she was equally as excited to perform as fans were to see her onstage.

Williams joined Kendrick Lamar as he took the stage at New Orleans’s Caesars Superdome. As the rapper performed his Grammy winning track, “They Not Like Us,” the tennis champion wore a blue two piece pleated skirt set with a white crop top underneath. During the performance, Williams kept her footwork speedy as the camera took a brief moment to focus on her.

Post-performance, Williams had the best reaction to joining Lamar onstage for the Halftime Show for her cameo. “Let’s go Super Bowl halftime??! I died a little!” she captioned an Instagram video of her getting prepped by glam—and practicing a few of her dance steps—before she hit the stage.

The 43-year-old also posted sweet behind the scenes moment from rehearsing for the event, with daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. joining her for practice, and occasionally playing in her mother’s curly blonde hair.

During the Super Bowl, Lamar performed a rousing set that also included hits like “DNA,” “Humble,” “Squabble Up” and “All the Stars” with SZA, who was in attendance. The game itself saw the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 and denying the team its chance to win its third Super Bowl in a row.
