After eight days, the 2025 Games concluded on February 16.

The seventh iteration of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games concluded on February 16—but not before an apparent security scare the day prior.

On February 15, Harry was attending the sitting volleyball tournament at the Vancouver Convention Centre when GB News reported that Harry’s “security team intervened amid crowd safety concerns.” Those concerns arose, according to the outlet, “when fans began crowding around him attempting to take selfies” and Harry’s “security guard had to step in and move people away who were getting too close.”

The incident on Saturday “cut short Harry’s planned interactions, preventing him from joining dozens of Team U.K. family and friends at the event,” GB News reported.

The Daily Express confirmed the report, writing that at one point Harry “reportedly had to be ushered out by his security after being mobbed by fans eager to take a selfie with him.

Harry’s wife Meghan Markle spent the first half of the 2025 Games with him, both in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. She left for their home in Montecito, California and their kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on February 11, but has continued to post about Harry since, including a romantic Valentine’s Day tribute and a video of the closing ceremony, where she commented over a video shared to her Instagram Story, “So proud of you!” alongside a clapping hands emoji.

Harry—who was joined for the latter half of the Games by fellow royals Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark, who, like Harry, now live in the U.S. (Washington, D.C. specifically)—appeared to fight back tears as former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid tribute to him at the Games’ closing ceremony on Sunday.

Trudeau said of Harry that without him the Invictus Games “would never have happened,” adding, “You are the one who turned this incredible idea into a reality and, as someone that you roped in early on in my time as Prime Minister, I can testify to the energy, the dedication, the commitment this man has to you and to this ideal,” per People.

Speaking at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Trudeau continued to address Harry, telling him and the crowd assembled, “You have changed the lives of so many people for the better, and for that we all owe you the deepest debt of gratitude.”

The 2025 Games mark a return to Canada, following the 2017 Games in Toronto—which also doubled as his public debut as a couple with then-girlfriend Meghan Markle, who lived in the Canadian city filming Suits.

In his own remarks at the closing ceremony, Harry began by singing the opening bars of “O Canada,” the country’s national anthem. “You’ve only gone and done it again,” the Duke of Sussex said, per People. “Did we all have fun?”

To those of you whose journey to these Games has been difficult and uncertain, who questioned whether you would even make it here today, thank you for showing us what is possible,” Harry continued in his remarks. “In the pursuit of saving yourselves, you have also saved all of us—those who love you and those who don’t even know you.”

Later in his speech, he referenced the next iteration of the Games, which will head back to the U.K.—Birmingham, specifically—in 2027 following the Games’ first competition in 2014, which took place in London.

And so long as the challenges around us demand it and require it…the Games will go on,” Harry said. “Bring on Invictus Games. Birmingham 2027. You have permission to party.”
