After the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson proved a major hit with viewers on Netflix, comedian Chris Rock revealed his misgivings over the contest on Saturday Night Live

Jake Paul was eviscerated by Chris Rock during a savage Saturday Night Live monologue – as the comedian denounced the YouTuber-turned-boxer after his controversial fight with Mike Tyson.

The bout between the pair on Nov. 15 proved a controversial affair ever since it was announced, not least due to the age gap between the two competitors. Backed by streaming giants Netflix, social media sensation Paul, 27, was pitted against former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 58, in a divisive match-up.

Purists condemned the decision to sanction the contest as a professional fight, with over 30 years separating the duo as they stepped into the ring at AT&T Stadium. Now, funnyman Rock has expressed his own disapproval as he embarked on a brutal rant during an appearance on SNL.

Critical of Paul after his unanimous decision win over Tyson, the comedian said in his monologue: “Who is this Jake Paul? This 27-year-old punching a 60-year-old in the face. Is this what the white man has reduced himself to? Stop it! Who’s he going to fight next, Morgan Freeman? I hate Jake Paul. I got landlord hate for him.”

Despite Rock’s misgivings, there was no denying the box office draw of the encounter between “Problem Child” and “Iron Mike” last month. In fact, Netflix has since confirmed that an estimated 65 million households tuned in to watch – making the fight the most streamed sporting event in U.S. history.

Hitting back at the critics, Paul previously said: “There’s no response to the reaction of the Tyson fight. I quite frankly didn’t look at it. What do I care what people have to say about anything that I do? If anyone in my life has something to say, they’ll text me. And if you don’t have my number, then I don’t give a —- about you.

“All the texts were, um, ‘best event ever’. ‘Incredible’. ‘You’re the, you know, face of boxing’, all of these things, record breaking love, love, love, love, love, love, love,” he continued. “And that’s all I care about. I mean, that’s just, that’s the landscape we’re in is like everyone just trying to talk —- and, you know, peacock jockey for their, for their position.

Referencing the success of the fight in terms of viewership on Netflix, Paul hit back at his detractors with a stern parting shot, saying: “But, um, beyond all the —- talk, like I don’t want to just create a back and forth of nonsense, but I have the biggest fight in boxing history.”

The YouTube superstar then added: “”Numbers tell the truth of that. So people can say whatever they want, but let me see you do more numbers and then we can, then we can talk. People are just mad that it’s permanently on BoxRec that I beat Mike Tyson.”
