Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 35, is contemplating his NFL future following the team’s recent Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a candid discussion on the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce acknowledged the physical and mental toll of his 12-year career, stating,
“The process can be grueling… It can make you better and it can drive you crazy at the same time.”
Kelce emphasized the importance of being fully committed if he chooses to continue playing, noting, “I need to be fully motivated and committed to my teammates if I am to return.”
He also reflected on the wear and tear his body has endured, mentioning the additional games from multiple AFC Championship and Super Bowl appearances.
Despite these challenges, Kelce remains a pivotal figure in the NFL, holding numerous records and having made five Super Bowl appearances in six seasons, securing three titles.
His recent season, however, saw a decline in performance, with statistics reaching their lowest since his rookie year.
While no definitive decision has been announced, some within the Chiefs organization believe Kelce may be leaning toward retirement.
NFL insider James Palmer reported that Kelce’s emotional response after the Super Bowl and his reflections on life after football have fueled these speculations.
As Kelce deliberates, he remains focused on supporting his teammates and carefully weighing his options, understanding the significant impact of his decision on both his career and personal well-being.
