Plus, the date Meghan Markle plans to launch her As Ever lifestyle brand
Compared to the other Spanish destinations, Porrores doesn’t get too many visitors – but that could be set to change thanks to Meghan Markle’s latest branding of As Ever.
Porrores is not a tourist destination, especially when compared to the capital of the island, Palma that brings in millions of visitors a year.
The town has a population of just 5,000, but could well be inundated with visitors with the Duchess Meghan Markle putting it on the map.
Meghan’s brand, As Ever, formerly known as American Riviera Orchard, is a lifestyle brand selling everything from pet food to yoga gear, home decor and cookbooks.
But she recently came under scrutiny for the design.
Her logo is of a white palm tree with two birds either side – and looks strikingly similar to the Porrores coat of arms.
The town’s coat of arms dates actually back to 1370 a few years after it was reclaimed by Spain from the Romans and the Saracens.
The mayor of Ms Mora Veny has since said they will be asking Meghan to remove it from her website.
She told The Sun: “The only difference with their logo and our coat of arms is that theirs shows two hummingbirds and in ours are either swallows or pigeons — historians cannot agree.”
Mr Veny has also said she would be happy to show Meghan around the town to show her the prevalence of the coat of arms.
But even tourists can explore the town, with popular local spots including the street of Avinguda Bisbe Campins, which has bars, cafes, the town hall and the popular gothic church of Nostra Senyora del Consolacion.
So if you stumble across the local market, expect some very high quality produce.
It’s also a great place to explore the vineyards and learn more with an organised tour.
There are also 36 windmills in the town, 10 of which are in the town centre.
