Breaking:NFL’s Patrick Mahomes Decision Draws Mixed Reaction From Fans

Patrick Mahomes had one of the worst performances of his career on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, 28-21. Mahomes threw 15-of-34 completed passes for 250 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. It was the first time in the two-time All-Pro quarterback’s career that he had more incomplete than completed passes.With Mahomes struggling, the Chiefs saw their three-game winning streak snapped by the Bills. Kansas City fell to 5-4 after the loss and have fallen out of the playoff picture in the AFC now that the NFL season has moved past the midway point. Sunday’s forgettable performance was an outlier for Mahomes, who, for the better part of the season, has been playing as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. In fact, he remains one of the top contenders for the MVP title this season, which would potentially be his third career MVP win.

Mahomes is also expected to contend for one major NFL end-of-season award. This comes in the form of the FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Year. The Chiefs star will go against the best offensive players in the NFL for the title. Six nominees will be named after the end of the regular season, and the two players who receive the most votes will win the awards. Last year’s winners were Josh Allen of the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase, who was the first wide receiver to win the prize.On Tuesday, the NFL took to social media to unofficially list some of the nominees for the FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Year. This includes Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, New England Patriots QB Drake Maye, Chase and San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey.

Mahomes was also included in the cover photo of the post. Similar to the other players included in the list, the Chiefs QB also had one of his highlight passes added in the collection of big plays from the unofficial nominees.The NFL’s decision to include Mahomes as a contender for the FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Year has drawn some mixed reactions from the fans on social media.It is worth noting that Mahomes has already won this award once in his career. This was in 2018, his second year, when he also bagged his first MVP title.The NFL also names FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Week, which are fan-voted awards as well. As of writing, it’s Taylor who leads the pack with three wins so far this season.
Mahomes will have an opportunity to bounce back in Kansas City’s next game. They get a bye in Week 10, but will be back in action on Nov. 16 in a divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos, who currently lead the AFC West with a 7-2 record after winning six games in a row.
