VLADIMIR Putin has sent President Trump a number of secret “signals” as the pair draw closer to holding a crunch phone call.

The Russian despot met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff yesterday as mad Vlad sent him back to Washington with a special message, the Kremlin has claimed.

It comes as Putin played for time by refusing to officially commit to the US and Ukrainians proposed 30-day ceasefire.

The tyrant said he agreed in principle with a truce, but clogged the path to peace with “nuances” and impossible questions.

The delay tactics are feared to be part of a grand plan so that he can entrap and slaughter Ukraine’s forces in Kursk before signing Trump’s peace deal.

Russian forces have already seized 28 settlements in the wartorn region in the past week alone.

Despite the comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he is “cautiously optimistic” over a ceasefire deal being agreed.

He also revealed Putin and Witkoff spoke about arranging a time for the Russian leader and Trump to speak soon.

A date or time is yet to be agreed as Putin wanted Witkoff to pass on some private information to Trump first.

Peskov, Russia’s leading voice piece, said: “After Mr Witkoff conveys all the information received in Moscow to the attention of his head of state, then we will determine the timing of the conversation.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spent yesterday blasting a “manipulative” Putin for actually being “scared” of Trump after he refused to accept a deal.

He said the Russian is “afraid to say directly” to Trump that he wants to “continue this war” and “kill Ukrainians”.

Trump was much more upbeat about the situation, citing “very promising” noises from the Kremlin.

But he did go on to warn Putin to immediately “do the right thing” and sign the ceasefire.

Hours after the Russian president’s brazen rejection of a peace deal, US intelligence officials claimed Putin will always want to gain full control of Ukraine despite the world wanting peace.

One official told the Washington Post: “The president desperately wants a deal.

“And the Russians are showing no signs of relenting. They’re ramping up their demands.”

A European intelligence official also claimed the tyrant believes Trump is a weak leader who can be manipulated.

They told the Post even if a permanent ceasefire is implemented they expect Russia to break the truce and continue to attack Ukraine using “hybrid” measures.
