Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were heavily criticised by a royal commentator over their latest Netflix show about polo.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex saw their fourth output with Netflix, POLO, hit the screens on Tuesday.
The show follows elite global players on and off the field, with the “sexy” sport billed in the trailer as showcasing “dirty, sweaty boys…riding”.
But a royal commentator questioned the couple’s bid to shine a spotlight on the sport, claiming that fans won’t be able to “relate” to it, as it’s more suited to “elite” audiences.
Helena Chard told GB News: “There’s been no excitement in the run-up to the show, and it’s sort of been enshrouded in black smoke.”
She continued: “Is there mass appeal? I don’t think so. Fans care more about royal drama than this.
This is elite and it’s about elite, global players. It’s about grit to glamour. I really don’t think people relate to this.”
Ms Chard added: “I am a photographer and I have shot many polo games. It’s not that exciting. It’s a lavish lifestyle that people, the general person, won’t be used to.
“It costs millions and millions of pounds to actually enter the sport. We know there is an element of charity to this.”
The series is produced by the Sussex couple’s Archewell Productions and Harry and Meghan serve as executive producers.
