Emma Watson wore a chic pink minidress to Miu Miu’s Paris Fashion Week show, but it was the dramatic diamond sparkler on her left ring finger that drew fans’ attention. Some wondered whether the 35-year-old actress, who is publicly single, was making a subtle announcement about her relationship status.But Watson isn’t engaged, Us Weekly reported, and she actually revealed the meaning behind her ring during her Jay Shetty On Purpose podcast appearance last month. The piece, a custom version of Olive Ave’s Maeve ring, is a gift from the 22 closest people in her life. She called it one of the most precious things she owns and a symbol of the life and community she has built for herself.

Olive Ave confirmed to ELLE that the sparkler is 14k rose gold and has “a yellow-round natural diamond center, surrounded by a halo of 22 tapered baguette lab-diamond accent stones in a ballerina-style setting with a cascading cathedral basket design on a half-round flat-edge shank.”Watson first wore the piece during the Venice Film Festival, on her right ring finger at the time.
“Having gone through this odyssey, which has been the last seven years, I was like, ‘Okay, I kind of feel like I’ve got to a place…where I want to celebrate where I ended up after I kind of left land,” she said on the podcast.

“I did a ritual with—I guess just a day of celebrating with my friends and chosen family, and they each bought me this ring, which has 22 petals on it, and each of them bought one,” she continued. “And I’ve just never owned anything so valuable in my life because to me, it represents the life that I’ve built, which was the one that I really wanted, which was one that was made up of community and my roots and faith and trust. And in some funny way, it signals to me that even though I have no outward signs of my success, save for this crazy one-woman play I’ve written—I don’t even have my degree yet—it signals to me that for me, [I] achieved what I wanted to achieve for myself.”

Watson got emotional and added, “I love that every time I look down at my finger, I can see all of the faces of the people who bought it for me.”
In the same interview, the star also spoke about how she views marriage. “I think that we’re being pressured and forced into this thing that I believe is a kind of miracle,” she admitted. “I might never be worthy of it. I hope it happens to me. But I don’t feel entitled to it. It will either be part of my purpose here and my destiny, or it won’t.”She called the pressure put on people—particularly young people—to wed “such a violence.” She added, “To make them feel like they have no worth, or like they haven’t succeeded yet in life, because they haven’t forced to its culmination something that I just don’t think can or should ever be forced.

“It’s something that, honestly, I feel like I’ve had to earn, I’ve had to work for: to be in a place where I feel like I can look someone in the eye and be able to tell them who I am, and to have some idea—and it will change and grow—of what I want and what I’m here to do.”
The actress also shed a little light on her experience dating, saying, “I think what’s nice is, at the very least, dating for everyone is basically a complete disaster and free-for-all. So like I feel like I’m in good company in that sense.”
