Breaking News: US treasury secretary tells “bitter” Europe to “sit down, wait” for Trump to get to Davos
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said European countries pushing back on the US attempts to acquire Greenland should “sit down and wait” for President Donald Trump to arrive at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland and “listen to his argument.”
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said European countries pushing back on the US attempts to acquire Greenland should “sit down and wait” for President Donald Trump to arrive at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland and “listen to his argument.”
“Take a deep breath, do not have this reflexive anger that we’ve seen, and this the bitterness,” Bessent told reporters in Davos on Wednesday. “Why don’t they sit down, wait for President Trump to get here and listen to his argument? Because I think they’re going to be persuaded.”
Trump has threatened 10% tariffs on eight European countries that are sending troops to Greenland to participate in joint exercises, led by Denmark.
“For those countries to activate their troops, I’m not sure what signal that’s supposed to send. It seems pretty quixotic to me,” Bessent said
Trump is currently en route to Davos aboard Air Force One, after switching aircraft following a “minor electrical issue,” according to a White House official.
