EXCLUSIVE: An expert warned that Vladimir Putin could become “the dominant power in Europe” amid rising tensions between the U.S. and the rest of the West
Vladimir Putin could become “the dominant power in Europe” amid rising tensions between the U.S. and the rest of the West — and nuclear war from the East could be on the horizon, and expert chillingly warned.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have been feuding over the past couple of weeks, with Trump unleashing a scathing rant against the “modestly successful comedian” on his Truth Social platform as he accused Zelensky of starting the war with Russia.
He also accused the Ukrainian leader of losing more than $350 billion in U.S. aid money as he chillingly stated, “Zelensky better move fast, or he is not going to have a Country left.”
According to Nick Witney, a senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, however, there might not be any of Europe left, either, should Putin decide to attack the region. Speaking to Express US, Witney called the current state of affairs “the biggest crisis for the West since the end of World War II.”
Unless Trump rows back, and quickly, there will be no peace deal,” he said, referring to recent meetings between Trump and Putin aimed at bringing about an end to the conflict, which began after Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022. Zelensky has been notably uninvited from those meetings.
The same day Putin invaded Ukraine, Zelensky declared martial law, which prompted Trump to declare the Ukrainian president “a Dictator without Elections” in his Truth Social rant.
Zelensky clapped back, stating that Trump lives in a “disinformation bubble” as he demanded to be included in the peace talks, which directly impact him and his country.
Days later, a meeting between Zelensky and the U.S. envoy to Ukraine and Russia was canceled at the last hour, which has experts like Witney theorizing that the only possible deal on the table today is complete Ukrainian surrender — and that’s something Zelensky “can’t” and “won’t” do.
But Witney warned that Russia “will settle for nothing less,” putting Trump, Zelensky and the entirety of NATO in a precarious position.
“So the war goes, with the odds on Russian military victory,” Witney said. Since 2022, Ukraine has relied on aid from not only the U.S. but also Europe and other NATO allies as the war rages on and Ukraine fights to remain free.
Witney theorized that, amid the heightened tensions between Trump and Zelensky, U.S. aid would likely “run down” or “stop” but that “Europeans will continue to send Ukraine money and weapons.”
But will aid drying up ultimately lead to the deterioration of Ukraine’s war effort? That remains in question, especially since Witney noted “Ukrainian resistance has surprised us before.” He also said “Russia has its own problems” and might be mounting weaker offensives.
Nevertheless, he said “the psychological balance has now shifted massively in Russia’s favor.” Whether or not Russia will actually become the dominant European power and pose a massive threat to Europe or not remains to be seen, but in the minds of many Europeans and Americans, the tides have turned toward the Eastern European country.
“Europeans must now recognize that the U.S. no longer has their backs,” Witney explained. “They will try harder to organize their own defense. This may deter Russia from more invasions any time soon but will leave Putin as the dominant power in Europe.”
Nuclear war on the horizon
If Russia becomes the dominant power in Europe, Witney speculates that NATO’s Eastern allies might band together to help the bloc using their nuclear arsenals as deterrance mechanisms — or by escalating the conflict into an all-out nuclear war.
