Breaking News: Prince William Admitted He’s “Really Bad” at Hobby Kate Middleton Excels At…. See More

Their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are all getting in on the hobby, too—but William? Not so much.
Earlier this week, as the Wales family of five enjoyed a Caribbean vacation, Kate Middleton shared a series of portraits drawn by her kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The hand-drawn sketches were shared in support of her “Shaping Us” campaign through her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, a campaign she launched in 2023 and an initiative that has been called her life’s work. On the couple’s official Instagram account, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared drawings done by their three kids—all which appeared to depict Kate herself—and Kate shared a portrait, too, which appeared to be a pencil sketch of Louis with his eyes shut.
Absent from the submitted drawings? Prince William, who noticeably didn’t contribute a portrait to the lineup. According to The Mirror, there’s a reason for that.
In a 2020 video call with schoolchildren, the future king confessed that he was “really bad” at drawing, and simultaneously praised his wife’s skills—one of her many talents. After William admitted that drawing was not his forte, Kate playfully teased William, saying, “You don’t practice enough!”
In the caption that accompanied the February 17 Instagram post, the couple wrote that “Drawing portraits with children can provide a moment of connection as you spend time looking at and focusing on one another, as well as being creative and—most importantly—having lots of fun together!” Each of the kids’ drawings was impressive, with Louis seeming “so eager to get his portrayal correct, he has even included his mum’s beauty spot just above her top lip in the drawing,” The Mirror reported.
The family of five are currently celebrating the kids’ half-term break from school at a favorite spot, the island of Mustique. When they return and get back to school for the kids and royal duties for William and Kate, a priority will be Kate’s Shaping Us Framework, which “describes the social and emotional skills which start to develop in early childhood,” the Instagram caption read.
These skills are key throughout our lives, shaping who we are, how we manage our thoughts and emotions, how we communicate with and relate to others, and how we explore the world around us,” it continued.
Indeed, while drawing might be a skill William admits he lacks, Kate is quite talented at the artistic hobby, so much so that, back in 2017, she drew a rendering of St. Mark’s Church—where her younger sister Pippa Middleton married James Matthews that May—and it was so well-done that it ended up on the cover of Pippa and James’ wedding programs.
