The Prince is accused of various potentially “illegal” deals
Prince Andrew, a disgraced figure in the British Royal Family, is facing criticism and accusations over business dealings that could threaten not only his reputation but the stability of the monarchy whilst making him millions.
The 64-year-old Duke of York has reportedly entered into a controversial agreement with the Dutch company Startupbootcamp (SBC), which uses his connections through the Pitch@Palace initiative to secure deals worldwide.
The deal could potentially make him vastly richer, but experts are concerned that the Prince’s actions may be illegal as royal author and former Home Office minister Norman Baker has condemned the Duke’s actions, calling them “out of order”.
According to the ex-government official, the data being sold by Prince Andrew doesn’t belong to him personally but rather to the entrepreneurs involved in Pitch@Palace, the program intended to help startups connect with investors.
Subsequently, Baker intends to file a formal complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office, arguing that the sale of this data may violate data protection laws.
For him now to sell it off, is disreputable, it’s improper, it may be illegal,” said Baker on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show. “Prince Andrew has been interested in Prince Andrew and nothing else he might have been representing, such as the Royal Family.
“I’m afraid he’s a sleazeball… and he needs to be held to account for that.”
Why is Prince Andrew allegedly doing this?
This deal with SBC raises questions about Andrew’s commitment to his royal responsibilities, as his involvement in Pitch@Palace had previously been positioned as a public initiative meant to benefit the UK economy.
Instead, it now appears to be a means for him to earn private income, and despite ongoing controversy, Andrew has remained in his Windsor home, after his brother, King Charles III, cut off his £1 million annual funding.
The Duke’s deal with SBC provides a potential financial lifeline that could help him hold onto his residence at Royal Lodge through the deal secured by SBC, capitalizing on the network he built through his royal duties.
“He will earn money from each deal SBC secures from his Pitch@Palace work,” a source told The Sun. “And the windfall will help enable him to hold on to Royal Lodge.
