Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has surprised fans with a dramatic change to his appearance following his team’s Super Bowl defeat on February 9, and fans think the Philadelphia Eagles are behind it. Are they right?

The quarterback, who is known for his signature mohawk, was recently spotted at a family event sporting a new, shorter haircut – a change has caused quite a stir on social media, with some fans humorously attributing the new look to his loss in the final game of the season.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared pictures, commenting, “He looks like a completely different person. It’s gonna take some time getting used to.”

A second wondered, “Is that Mahomes or [Trent] McDuffie?”

Meanwhile, some fans even expressed curiosity about seeing Mahomes with a completely clean-shaven look, saying, “Now I kinda wanna see him clean-shaven too. Why not?”

Among the playful remarks, one stood out, with a fan suggesting, “The Eagles knocked him into an identity crisis, lol.”

The idea that Mahomes’ change in appearance was somehow linked to the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles and Jalen Hurts sparked lighthearted banter, though there’s more to the story. While fans may be making jokes, the haircut wasn’t a sudden impulse. Mahomes himself had hinted at this change earlier.

“It’s gone this offseason,” Mahomes said of his mohawk to The Pat McAfee Show. “I promise y’all.

“I almost did it today and just came on today with it. I’ve got to do something. I just couldn’t deal with it anymore.”

The timing of the haircut, however, does coincide with the Chiefs’ humbling loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl 59. The Eagles dominated the game, with a 24-0 lead at halftime.

Despite a brief rally, the Chiefs couldn’t recover, ultimately falling 40-22. Mahomes took full responsibility for the loss, especially his three turnovers, including two interceptions and a pick-six.

“When you give a team 14 points, especially a really good football team, not a lot of good things happen. That’s why I take ownership in this loss, probably more than any loss in my entire career because I put us in a bad spot.”
