Breaking News: King Charles launches online music playlist including Bob Marley and surprise modern pop star…. Check In

The King has teamed up with Apple Music to allow listeners to hear his favourite tunes, which also includes hits by musical legends Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones and “1930s crooners”
King Charles is set to launch his very own online music playlist featuring tracks from reggae legend Bob Marley, Afrobeats sensation Davido, and pop artist Raye.
The British King has partnered with Apple Music, allowing fans to tune into his personal favourites, which, according to an Apple spokesperson, also includes bangers from music icons Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and some “1930s crooners”.
At 76, Charles has recorded a special message before the new show kicks off, sharing tales of his run-ins with some of the featured musicians, just in time for Commonwealth Day this Monday. The hush-hush collaboration, dubbed Project Rose, has been in the pipeline for ages.
In a clip from Buckingham Palace, His Majesty shares: “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories, comfort us in times of sadness and to take us to distant places.”
Charles also mentioned: “I particularly wanted to share with you songs which have brought me joy.”
Charles, who attended Gordonstoun from the age of 13 to 18, was quite the musician, dabbling in piano, cello, and trumpet, not to mention his stints in the school choir and orchestra. He’s a massive fan of classical tunes, and back in 2020, he even hosted a show on Classic FM, spinning some of his top classical tracks.
His playlist featured ‘The Birds’ from Parry’s Bridal March of the Birds, Wagner’s symphonic masterpieces, and a piano concerto by Nigel Hess, who had the honour of composing for Charles’s coronation.
Apple Music’s bigwig Rachel Newman gushed about the King’s latest musical venture, saying: “Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach. Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honoured that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us and with music fans around the world.”
Errollyn Wallen, CBE, Master of The King’s Music, chimed in: “You can see His Majesty’s wide-ranging enthusiasm for music in this playlist to mark Commonwealth Day. The Commonwealth has produced more than its fair share of wonderful songs, singers, and musicians, and this fun and eclectic collection is a great reminder of this
An Apple spokesperson said: “The King’s Music Room is sure to surprise and delight music fans everywhere, revealing a more personal side to His Majesty. A musical journey that reflects His Majesty’s personal taste, the show is shaped by his extraordinary experiences from around the world.”
They added: “King Charles III also shares and reveals why the songs help form the soundtrack to his life.”
