Breaking News: Kensington Palace Issues Rare Statement Regarding Princess Kate… See More

The future Queen of England faced backlash after a recent announcement from the palace.
Kensington Palace has issued a correction about the future Queen of England after some people interpreted a statement made by a spokesperson as a direct message from Princess Kate.
In early February, the palace announced that it would no longer issue details about Kate Middleton’s wardrobe at public appearances.
Though an exception will be made for significant outfits and jewelry worn for important state and family events, the palace will move away from focusing on her sartorial choices. A source told The Times that “there is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing. She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.”
The source continued, stating that “there will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
After the Feb. 1 statement was issued, there was backlash both from fans on social media and in op-eds published by media sources, who pointed out that Kate’s sartorial choices help connect her to the public and shine a light on British designers, boosting the U.K.’s fashion industry in the process.
The palace has since clarified that the message was not from the royal, but from a spokesperson.
“Over the last week, I have received numerous questions about a story regarding The Princess of Wales’s clothing and how Kensington Palace shares information about her outfits. To clarify, the comments that appeared in the article were from me, not The Princess of Wales. The comments that were reported should not be directly attributed to The Princess of Wales,” the spokesperson said in a Feb. 11 statement to People.
Kate, who announced in January that her cancer was in remission, has slowly returned to public life after finishing her chemotherapy treatment in September 2024.
