Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing challenges while trying to balance their roles between entertainment and humanitarian work, a royal expert has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have taken on a number of projects since they left the royal family in 2020. The couple have a lucrative deal with Netflix and have been working hard to make positive changes with their Archewell Foundation. However, they have come under fire for their work
It is difficult for Meghan and Harry trying to find their place in the world,” Royal correspondent Cameron Walker said on GB News.
He added, “Are they media entertainment personalities or are they going to be humanitarian workers? I think at the moment, they are straddling those two different worlds and they are trying to find their place within it.”
Harry-Meghan facing challenges?
Meghan and Harry recently met with survivors of the Los Angeles wildfires, but were slammed for using the disaster as a photo opportunity to further their media careers. Royal commentator Cameron Walker said the pair are “straddling two different worlds” and struggling to define their place after stepping down as senior royals in 2020.
Walker continued, “If they were still working members of the royal family and this [wildfires] was happening in the UK, I suspect we would see them doing something similar. I think this could be one of the last hurrahs in terms of their Netflix deal, Meghan’s cooking program.”
His comments come after Meghan and Harry were labeled “disaster tourists” by Justine Bateman after they were pictured hugging wildfire victims and handing out food. Their volunteering was branded a “photo op.” Bateman slammed the couple on X Saturday, writing that they “are no better than ambulance chasers.”
Multiple fires erupted in Los Angeles last week. The biggest of them, the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, have displaced over 150,000 people and burned over 40,000 acres (62 square miles).
“Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved,” the Family Ties star wrote on X.
She added, “They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”
