Breaking News: Elon Musk backs Rupert Lowe to become Prime Minister in Nigel Farage snub….Read More

The billionaire member of Donald Trump’s cabinet has once again waded into British politics.

Elon Musk has reiterated his endorsement of Rupert Lowe, in a new tweet appearing to call for the ousted Reform MP to become Prime Minister. Taking to his own social media platform X, Mr Musk commented on a video of Rupert Lowe calling for the restoration of Britain.

The video, posted by an account called ‘StarmerOut’, saw Mr Lowe speaking at a Reform conference calling for Britain to become “respected” by the world once again. Mr Lowe said: “Right now, Britain is a joke and has been for some time. I want the British government to put the British people at the top of the agenda.” “We should make no apologies for that. Learn from Trump. Let’s be unapologetically patriotic, slash tax across the board, enforce the border, deport those with no right to be here.”

The account that posted it captioned the video: “Can we please get this man as Prime Minister”.

Returning to the foray of British politics, Elon Musk replied with two Union Jack emojis.

The tweet marks Mr Musk’s first comment on Rupert Lowe since the Great Yarmouth MP was expelled from Reform UK a week ago.

Many have suggested that the first rift between Mr Lowe and Nigel Farage emerged after Mr Musk pulled his support for Mr Farage and publicly called on him to be replaced by Mr Lowe as leader of the insurgent right wing party.

In January the tech billionaire and Tesla boss said Mr Farage “did not have what it takes” to lead the party.

The intervention came as a huge blow to Mr Farage, who had been courting a mega donation from Mr Musk.

Mr Farage later said he was aiming to repair his relationship with the Donald Trump cabinet member during his visit to Washington for the inauguration.

However Mr Musk’s latest tweet suggests he is still refusing to return his backing the Mr Farage, despite the Reform UK leader’s close relationship with President Trump

Earlier this week it was reported that Mr Musk is considering backing Mr Lowe if he forms a breakaway party to rival Reform.

According to the Financial Times, Mr Musk said he would support a credible right-wing alternative to Nigel Farage, and refused to respond to the paper’s request for comment on the claim.

Mr Musk has frequently courted controversy when wading into the politics of foreign countries, most recently endorsing Giorgia Meloni’s right wing party in Italy, and the far-right Alternative for Germany party who came second in the recent election.
