Donald Trump has issued a battle cry to Team USA ahead of the 4 Nations final against Canada on Thursday night, with the 47th President set to watch on from afar
Donald Trump rallied Team USA with a battle cry ahead of their 4 Nations final showdown against “Fifty First State” Canada on Thursday, confirming he’ll be watching from a distance.
The American hockey squad is gearing up for a face-off with their Canadian rivals at Boston’s TD Garden, following a heated round-robin game in Montreal just days prior.
Amid political strains fueled by Trump’s tariff threats on Canada, calls have been made for the 47th U.S. President to attend the Boston match, but he has stated he won’t be there. Unlike Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who witnessed Canada’s 3-1 loss at Montreal’s Bell Centre last Saturday, Trump will be cheering for Team USA from Washington DC.
Nevertheless, Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to announce his intention to make a motivational call to Mike Sullivan’s team on Thursday morning. He also extended a surprising invitation to “Governor” Trudeau, hinting at a future where Canada might join the United States.
I’ll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State,” Trump posted
“I will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend. But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome. Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Amid rising political tensions, it appears improbable that Trudeau will take up Trump’s offer. The hockey rivalry between the US and Canada, already one of the fiercest in the sport, has reached new heights, exacerbated by the most severe political strain seen between the nations since the 19th century.
Trump has fueled animosity amidst the NHL’s showcase tournament by threatening tariffs and flirting with a trade war. His repeated insinuations about annexing Canada have sparked ire from the historically friendly nation.
In a recent Truth Social post, Trump stirred controversy by labeling Canada as the “51st state” and referring to its Prime Minister as “Governor,” escalating his ongoing spat with the vast country.
