Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy is predicted to double down on his impressive rookie season and explode in 2025.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ season didn’t end the way it wanted to, but Xavier Worthy was a lone bright spot in the Super Bowl loss.

After a slow start to his NFL career, the switch flicked for Xavier midway through the year, and he began to be a factor in the offense, with Patrick Mahomes’ trust in him growing with each passing week.

Worthy’s last 10 games (not counting Week 18 vs. Broncos as most of the team sat out), he registered at least four receptions and 40 receiving yards and culminated with a monster 157-yard, two-touchdown game in the Super Bowl loss as he caught all eight targets.

Finishing his regular season with 638 yards and six touchdowns, plus a combined 287 yards in three playoff games, ESPN’s Jason Reid thinks that Xavier is about to explode in 2025 and named him his breakout candidate.

“Xavier Worthy, WR, Chiefs,” Reid writes. “Because of injuries at wideout (namely Rashee Rice), the Chiefs asked a lot of Worthy during his rookie season. But he delivered, and he’ll have a sensational sophomore year.”

With most of the Chiefs’ receiving room free agents, we might not see DeAndre Hopkins, Juju Smith-Schuster, or Marquise Brown back in 2025, so Patrick Mahomes’ key weapons might be Worthy and Rashee Rice, who is coming back from an ACL injury.

So Worthy might see even more targets than he did this season if we add in Travis Kelce retiring, and suddenly, Mahomes’ weapons have diminished rather quickly.

Indeed, the Kelce wrinkle seems to us to be key here. Rice has a legit chance to be a traditional No. 1 receiver … and Kelce has long been Mahomes’ favorite target. Maybe the best setup – assuming Travis stays on – is that there are actually three guys capable of being that “first” guy.

But it is a smart bet that Worthy, who had a blistering end to the season, won’t have a sophomore slump; he’ll have a sensational Year 2. … one way or the other.
