A royal insider has revealed the nickname palace staff gave Meghan Markle during her time as a working royal, inspired by her “woke” and “new-agey” approach.

A new book has revealed that palace staff privately referred to Meghan Markle as “Mystic Meg” due to her “woke” ways.

Royal author Tom Quinn’s latest book, Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, details how staff coined the nickname for the Duchess of Sussex during her brief tenure as a working royal.

“It’s true that her nickname for a while was the Duchess of Difficult, but she had other, friendlier nicknames, including Mystic Meg, which came about because she was so new agey, so woke, about so many things,” one staff member said.

The moniker was a nod to the late English astrologer Mystic Meg, known for her eccentric predictions.

The 43-year-old former actress, who joined the royal fold in 2016 after she began dating Prince Harry, reportedly struggled with the constraints of royal life.

“She could be difficult because she was finding life difficult- trying to feel her way and work out the intricacies of a positively medieval, labyrinthine system,” the staffer added.

While she would sometimes be warm and friendly, “over friendly” even, by hugging staff and attempting to befriend them, at other times she would reportedly become frustrated if they didn’t respond instantly “at all times of the day and night.”

Meanwhile, a former palace worker suggested that Meghan’s influence had a noticeable impact on Prince Harry, shifting his priorities towards social justice and minority rights.

“Some of the youngest staff at Kensington Palace would’ve applauded this, no doubt, but the older staff thought he’d become a tree-hugging leftie,” the source said.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Meghan has been the subject of unflattering nicknames from staff.

In the 2022 book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, royal author Valentine Low claimed former aides privately referred to her as a “narcissistic sociopath”.

Most recently, reports emerged that staff at Spotify, where Meghan briefly worked on her Archetypes podcast, nicknamed her Eva, a reference to the scheming protagonist of the 1955 Joan Crawford film Queen Bee.

UK royal correspondent Neil Sean told Fox News Digital that the nickname was used as a “warning signal to let people know that she was either arriving or on the warpath”.

Even Meghan herself acknowledged her reputation, hitting back at being labelled “Duchess Difficult”.

“Should being a b***h be a bad thing?” she asked in an episode of Archetypes, titled To ‘B’ or not to ‘B’?.

Perhaps the truth is that labelling a woman as the ‘b-word’ or as ‘difficult’ is often a deflection. A way to hide some of her really awesome qualities.”

However, not all reports from former employees have been negative.

Ashley Hansen, the former Head of Communications for Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation, shared a glowing account of her time working for the couple.

Speaking to Us Weekly in September, Hansen revealed that when she required extended leave for surgery, the Sussexes showed remarkable care and support.

When I told them, I was met with the kind of concern and care a parent would express if it were their own child,” she said.

“I was asked what I needed, how and if they could help, and told to take as much time as I needed.”

Similarly, the couple’s former Chief of Staff, Josh Kettler, reflected positively on his time with the Sussexes and the Archewell team.

“They are dedicated and hardworking,” he said.
