Breaking: Meghan Markle Quietly Volunteers to Support Altadena Teen Girls Following Devastating Wildfires in California….See More
The Duchess of Sussex made a low-key volunteer visit with donations earlier this week.
Meghan Markle is continuing to support wildfire relief efforts in her home state of California. Earlier this week, she volunteered with Altadena Teen Girls, an organization launched by 14-year-old Avery Colvert to support her community, has the goal of helping “young girls regain their sense of self and confidence” in the devastating aftermath of the fires.
I started this to help girls affected specifically by the Eaton Canyon fire who lost their homes feel like themselves — and feel confident again,” Avery told the Los Angeles Times. “They’ve lost everything, and I want them to feel a sense of normalcy when nothing else in their life is normal.”
T&C reported yesterday that Harry and Meghan made donations to Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery through their Archewell Foundation, and today, T&C can confirm Meghan also volunteered with the organization on Monday.
She arrived with new clothing and beauty products, as well as lunch for the volunteers. During her time there, the Duchess of Sussex chatted with the families as they visited, assisted the girls with shopping, and provided support to whatever they needed.
On Instagram, Altadena Girls posted a Reel with the caption, “thank you to everyone who showed up on Monday, which was such a special day! We love you!” Meghan is pictured arriving in the video, carrying bags full of donations, and chatting with Avery.
Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan opened their Montecito home to loved ones impacted by the fires, and in addition to donating to Altadena Teen Girls, they have made donations through their Archewell Foundation to other relief efforts, and have donated clothing, children’s items, and other essential supplies.
On their website, the Sussexes also directed people to support organizations—including the World Central Kitchen, the LA Fire Department, Compton Cowboys, and Baby2baby. In addition, the Duchess of Sussex had postponed the launch of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan to “focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.” The series will now debut in March.
Harry and Meghan also previously volunteered with the World Central Kitchen in Pasadena. “It’s great people, great personalities and great heart for them to come out here and meet with the first responders, meet with the people who were affected,” Pasadena mayor Victor Gordo told local news. “It’s very important.”
Gordo added, “They want to be as helpful as they can be … we visited with some of the affected families in some of the burned-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena. They took the time to meet the people that are affected and spent time. They’re just very caring people who are concerned for their friends and neighbors.”
