Breaking: Did Meghan Markle Snub Queen Elizabeth at Her Wedding to Prince Harry? A Video From Their Nuptials Is Going Viral Again…..See More

Watchers noticed that the actress may not have adhered to proper royal etiquette.
When it comes to a wedding, there are an array of customs a couple may opt to adhere to. From waiting until the ceremony to see each other to having a mother-son or father-daughter dance at the reception, duos often value these rituals on their big day. However, at a British royal wedding, following certain time-honored practices such as placing a good luck charm on the bride’s gown, holding a midday ceremony, and exchanging bands made of Welsh gold, are of the utmost importance. Yet one of the most critical procedures at such an affair doesn’t have to do with history, but rather proper etiquette: the couple paying respects to the sovereign.
At the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel, the eyes of the world—and 600 invited guests—were on the duo as they exchanged their vows. However, after the pair officially tied the knot and became husband and wife, online watchers were quick to wonder if they had accidentally snubbed Queen Elizabeth by not properly greeting the sovereign. Traditionally, when interacting with the king or queen, etiquette stipulates that men should bow from the neck and women should sink into a small curtsy.
It’s a custom that’s not only followed by the British public, but also by members of the royal family. Such a tradition would have been part of Harry’s life from the time he was born and detailed to Meghan prior to her first time meeting the Queen. Yet on the day of Harry and Meghan’s ceremony, the online broadcast didn’t show the newlyweds performing the time-honored ritual.
The confusion was likely due to a change in camera angle. While watchers caught a glimpse of the prince beginning to dip his head after the duo finished singing the national anthem, the camera suddenly cuts away to an aerial view of the chapel, making the gesture almost impossible to see. By the time the broadcast returns to the close-up shot of the newlyweds, the moment has already passed, and the happy couple is beginning to recess down the aisle. However, royal experts confirmed that the two had in fact paid their respects.
Meghan did actually curtsy to the Queen, but it was a very bad camera angle,” said Elliot, the host of The Royal Reviewer News Show, in a YouTube video on the topic. “Because of the way the camera is, it kind of obscures it slightly, and you don’t get the full effect of the curtsy. But I’m going to end all speculation. Meghan did in fact curtsy to the Queen.”
However, even if the pair didn’t accidentally break with tradition with this custom, they did alter other rituals when it came to their big day. For example, Meghan reportedly gave a speech at the duo’s reception, departing from the norm that only the best man, the father of the bride, and the groom could give remarks at the festivities. Yet even though the pair made the affair their own, they still adhered to many royal protocols, including having a family portrait, using seasonal flowers, and driving away in a getaway car.
