Trump’s Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, Steve Witkoff, says meeting to be held in Riyadh or Jeddah
Senior officials from the Trump administration are set to meet with Ukrainian counterparts in Saudi Arabia next week, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The US delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, Steve Witkoff.
Witkoff later confirmed the meeting was being planned in Riyadh or Jeddah to “get down a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire.”
Fox News reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief aide, Andriy Yermak, would lead Kyiv’s delegation.
Saudi Arabia has already facilitated talks between Washington and Moscow, further solidifying Riyadh’s growing influence in global diplomacy.
Shortly after the meeting between senior US and Russian diplomats in Riyadh, Zelenskyy was invited to the White House for an official visit and to sign a minerals agreement with Trump. However, the meeting took a turn after a heated exchange between Zelenskyy, Trump, and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office, in front of the media.
Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House and departed the US without finalizing the deal. Following this, Trump ordered a suspension of military aid shipments to Ukraine, as well as a halt to intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” a White House official told Al Arabiya English. “We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” the official added.
