Breaking: Whoopi Goldberg knocks over prestigious award at The View table: ‘We can’t have nice things…..See More

Goldberg showed off her new Audie plaque and then promptly sent it crashing toward the Hot Topics table.
Whoopi Goldberg has famously collapsed to The View’s Hot Topics table several times in the past; now, she’s letting her new Audie Award fill in as her daredevil stunt double.
The 69-year-old EGOT-winning actress proudly displayed her new Audie plaque — which the Audio Publishers Association recently awarded her for narrating her Bits and Pieces audiobook — Wednesday morning on the beloved talk show, and later let the physical honor literally shake the table with its powerful presence.
Goldberg celebrated attending the Audie ceremony, where she said she got to meet “so many” people whose voices she recognized from listening to their audiobooks. Mid-sentence, however, a slight movement from Goldberg sent the Audie — which stood upright in a case in front of her on the Hot Topics table — plummeting forward toward the surface
Goldberg jumped in her seat when the plaque made a loud crashing sound, while Alyssa Farah Griffin exclaimed, “Ooh! Don’t break it!”
The View’s unofficial (but kind of official) Emergency Response Field Leader™ Sara Haines quickly sprung into action, immediately reaching over to pick the plaque up and reposition it for her colleague.
“This is why we can’t have nice things,” Haines quipped, with Goldberg adding, “Yeah, we can’t have nice things” amid Haines’ momentary recovery mission.
While Haines repositioned the Audie, Goldberg continued to reminisce on her Audie ceremony journey: “I just said to everybody, ‘I’ve slept with all of you, because I’ve listened to most of you at night.”
Goldberg’s accidental stunt at the table added another iconic occurrence to the growing roster of noise-based happenings at The View, also including unknown entities floating above the show’s airspace, Joy Behar’s notoriously interruptive cell phone, and an audience member clash over a man attempting to record the show in the studio.
Nothing can compare to the legendary January 2023 water spillage and fart noise incident, however, which saw a comically large amount of water flow across the Hot Topics table like a tidal wave of unknown origin — prompting Goldberg and Haines to mount another recovery mission to clean up the destruction.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC. Watch Goldberg send her Audie crashing to the table in the video at the top of this post.
