Donald Trump could be invited to stay at Balmoral Castle with King Charles during a upcoming state visit to the UK, according to government sources.

The invitation is rumoured to be extended this week when Labour leader Keir Starmer travels to Washington DC to meet with the US President.

A Downing Street source indicated that a formal state visit invitation would be communicated during talks at the Oval Office on Thursday.

A Whitehall insider told The Sun: “He’s already been to Windsor and Buckingham Palace, so Balmoral is being talked about.”

The Scottish castle, where the monarch traditionally spends his summers, would be a fitting choice given Trump’s Scottish heritage.

Only one previous US president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, has stayed at Balmoral, visiting Queen Elizabeth II alongside Prime Minister Harold MacMillan in August 1959.

The source added: “Everyone knows he loves Scotland and it’s near his golf course.”

The former president has previously been hosted at both Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace during his first presidency.
