The Duke of Sussex plans to remain in America “for good”
Prince Harry believes that his mother, Princess Diana, would have supported his decision to move to America.
Four years ago, the Duke of Sussex, alongside his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, announced they were to step back as senior members of the royal family. The pair subsequently moved to Montecito, California, with their son, Archie. Their daughter Lilibet was later born in the US.
In a candid discussion at the New York Times Dealbook Summit, Harry explained that he was doubtful he would ever move back to the UK on a permanent basis. When asked by Andrew Sorkin on whether he planned to remain stateside for good, the Prince replied: “I do. I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here.

He continued to explain that he enjoys significantly more privacy and freedom over in America, which simply would not be an option in the UK, where he has concerns about security. The duke added it felt as though “it’s the life [his] mum wanted” for him.
Harry also discussed the pressure he felt after his mother passed away when he was just 12 years old. Princess Diana died in 1997 in Paris, after her car was chased by paparazzi photographers.
“I think when you are kind of trapped within this bubble, it feels like there’s no way out,” he explained. “What happened to my mum and the fact that I was a kid and felt helpless, there comes the inner turmoil. I felt helpless. One of my biggest weaknesses is feeling helpless.” He added he was scared that something similar could happen to himself, his wife or his children.
Away from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan have since started their own production company, Archewell Productions.
Their latest show is Polo, a documentary which explores the intense lives of people who play polo professionally. Harry himself is a keen polo player, and is regularly seen participating in events out in California.
