It is not just the royal ties that Meghan Markle left behind before earning the title of ‘rebel royal’ from fans. The trail of estrangement began with her own father, Thomas Markle, even before the former actress became an official royal. A lot has been said about Markle and her father’s feud, which was essentially based on the accusations about the retired lighting director being a bit of a rumormonger and a British press ally. Nonetheless, six years since the controversy, has Markle finally let go of the negative emotions?

This question came up recently as Markle seemingly made a very subtle admission of regretting her feud with Thomas Markle.

On Tuesday, Meghan Markle addressed a fundraising carol concert at St Marylebone Parish Church in the UK for Smart Works. While she was not physically present at the event, the guests were welcomed with a message card from Markle, who has been a patron of the organization since 2019. As per PEOPLE, Markle also shared a heartwarming poem, I’ve Learned, by the legendary poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou. The poem touched on the parent-child relationship and the themes of missing your parents.

This sparked speculation about whether Markle is now feeling the pull from her estranged father and wants to reconcile. However, the chances of that being true is quite slim. Back in 2020, Markle was reportedly ready to see her father in court with their lawsuit against Associated Newspapers. Just a few months back, it was again cemented that Markle wants nothing to do with Thomas Markle.

Thomas Markle has made a lot of effort to reconcile with his daughter. He could not attend Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, nor has he ever met his grandchildren. The Mirror reported in August that Thomas is “heartbroken” about the way things have turned out and wishes to reunite with the Suits alum. However, Meghan “does not plan on having a relationship with him”.

Thomas has also indirectly blamed Prince Harry for worsening his rift with Meghan. In an interview with Daily Mail, he questioned why the Duke of Sussex never made any attempts to meet him. That said, it seems highly unlikely that the Duchess would want to reconcile with her father anytime soon, although it is possible that she misses the empty nester.
