Princess Diana Thought One Former US President Was the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’: “She Had Been…”

During a party, just months before her tragic death on August 31, 1997, Princess Diana reportedly dubbed former U.S. President Bill Clinton as the ‘sexiest man alive’. The revelation comes from none other than Warren Buffett. The billionaire investor spoke about his encounters with the late Princess during a 2012 interview with CNBC. He recalled meeting her multiple times, and on one of those occasions, at a party hosted by Washington Post publisher, Katharine Graham—an event attended by some of the most influential figures in politics and business—Diana sneaked in the bold statement.

Buffett recalled sitting across the table from Diana at the event, which he said took place ‘very shortly’ before her untimely death. He revealed, “She had been to the White House that day, and she had said that Bill Clinton was the sexiest man alive.” Buffett joked, “And I didn’t ask her who the least sexy guy in the world alive was. I was afraid I might get my play in there.” This was the second time Buffet had met the Princess. The first was at a party where the two were alone in a room.

Recalling the day, Buffett admitted that he was completely starstruck. He confessed, “Somehow we found ourselves in this library and I—in 15 minutes, I don’t think I could take it. I had trouble remembering my name, I couldn’t—I couldn’t think of anything to say, and it was a total disaster.” He also claimed that he didn’t reveal what Diana said to him until the interview. “After she died a few weeks later, all these papers called and said, ‘What did she talk about that evening?’ I didn’t tell them.” Diana’s connection to Bill and Hillary Clinton extended beyond casual remarks.

According to People magazine, she met the couple in 1996 while attending a fundraising breakfast alongside the then-First Lady to support breast cancer research. The Clintons were among the many world leaders who attended her funeral the following year. After her passing, President Clinton publicly acknowledged the tragedy, stating, “Hillary and I knew Princess Diana, and weprofoundly saddened by this tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers tonight are with her family, friends, and especially her children.” Clinton also praised Diana’s work in AIDS activism and highlighted her deep bond with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
