Exclusive: Boden’s new jumper is inspired by an iconic Princess Diana (and Harry Styles) look……See More

When it comes to British fashion icons, Princess Diana and Harry Styles definitely make the cut. Both fans of bold colors, statement prints, and sweater vests, the unlikely duo have more in common sartorially than you might expect. And the best example of their fashion similitude? A very grandpacore sweater.
A 19-year-old Diana wore the OG black sheep knit in 1981, just four months after announcing her engagement to Prince Charles. It was created by the tiny Brighton brand Muir & Osborne, which, within weeks, was called up to showcase its designs at New York Fashion Week. Hardcore fans can still snag remakes of the original red knits for a pretty reasonable £150.
Fast forward 38 years, and Harry Styles put a new twist on the ovine style. The One Direction singer appeared in a novelty sheep-print sweater vest—this time courtesy of Lanvin, with a cool £945 price tag. ‘Harry Styles. Princess Di. A Sheep Sweater. Style Perfection,’ was the headline US magazine Esquire ran alongside the snap.
So, we’re pretty confident in asserting that a sheep-emblazoned knitted jumper is a solid fashion choice. But what if you don’t want to spend a small fortune on the Muir & Osborne original or a larger fortune on the Lanvin reincarnation? Well, head to Boden. The British brand is currently selling the Heather Jacquard Jumper in sky blue, featuring a sheepy pattern entirely reminiscent of the Princess Di original.
The hip-skimming knit has a similar straight fit to Diana’s version, along with cuffed sleeves and a hemline for the perfect preppy look. We’ll be styling ours much like the Princess styled hers—with a white shirt collar peeking out the top and a pair of mid-blue jeans. Did someone say Sloane Ranger?
