The York sisters are said to be loyal to their father, but eager for him to make adjustments to his life after a series of well-publicised scandals
It’s not been an easy few months for Prince Andrew – and his daughters are said to be ‘desperate’ for him to change his ways, after a series of seemingly never-ending scandals. In December last year, a court revealed the King’s brother had links to an alleged Chinese spy, who has since been banned from Britain on national security grounds. The businessman visited Buckingham Palace twice as Andrew’s guest, was invited to the Prince’s 60th birthday party and attended events at St James’ Palace and Windsor Castle.
His contact with Prince Andrew came mostly during the Prince’s tenure as trade envoy, with Labour peer Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, saying: ‘He took several trips to China on behalf of the government and would have been introduced to senior government and business figures. In the light of recent revelations, it becomes even more urgent for his relationships with Chinese officials to be examined in detail.’ Meanwhile, Dame Angela Eagle, the Home Office minister, said that the alleged spy posed a threat, ‘especially in his relationship with Prince Andrew’.
Prince Andrew denied all wrongdoing and claimed to have ceased contact with the alleged spy after receiving advice from the government – but he still heeded Palace advice, as per The Times, to ‘do the decent thing’ and step back from Christmas celebrations. Instead of joining the rest of the family at Sandringham, he spent the festivities at home at Royal Lodge in Windsor, accompanied by his ex-wife, the Duchess of York. Sarah Ferguson has already pledged her loyalty to Andrew, recently affirming to The Times that she thought him ‘the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind… I won’t let him down. He supports me as much as I support him.’
