Jay-Z has released a statement after the sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by a woman identified as Jane Doe was dropped on Friday.
“Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere,” the rapper said.
“The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims.”
The Grammy winner, 55, continued: “I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed.”
Jay-Z went on throwing jabs at the “1-800-lawyer” who represented Jane Doe — referring to attorney Tony Buzbee, who is also handling hundreds of sexual assault lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs — calling the whole ordeal a “money grab.”
“The system has failed,” he said. “The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence.”
“May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally,” he closed.
The rapper was named in the suit, which was refiled in December, alongside Combs as Doe accused both hip hop figures of raping her when she was 13 years old at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
In her original October rape complaint the anonymous woman had only listed Combs as a defendant.
