The four-time ceremony host and “Ghost” star will present at the Academy Awards, alongside other Oscar winners, including Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, and more.
Oscars, your telecast definitely isn’t in danger, girl, as legendary actress and Hollywood icon Whoopi Goldberg is set to make her grand return to the Academy Awards stage as a presenter for the first time in nearly 10 years.
The Academy announced Tuesday that Goldberg will attend the Oscars as part of its roster of celebrity presenters during the live show, which also includes Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Elle Fanning, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Amy Poehler, June Squibb, and Bowen Yang. Previously announced presenters include all four reigning acting winners: Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Emma Stone.
The Academy does not typically reveal which presenters are handing out which categories. However, at the 2025 Oscars, it should be noted that Goldberg will appear on stage during a ceremony where her fellow Ghost star Demi Moore is widely expected to win Best Actress for her role in the 2024 body-horror masterpiece The Substance.
Goldberg, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1990 classic Ghost, will return to the Academy Awards telecast as a presenter for the first time in almost a decade, as she last joined the broadcast at the 88th Oscars in 2016. During that ceremony, Goldberg presented the segment for the Honorary Academy Awards and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The Sister Act star and moderator of The View was more recently in a specialty film package titled Mean Tweets, which aired during the 89th Oscars, and presented at the Governors Awards tied to the 90th Oscars one year later.
In addition to her presenting duties, Goldberg has hosted the Oscars four times, including shows that aired in 1994, 1996, 1999, and 2002. That number makes her the woman whose hosted the most ceremonies in Academy Awards history. She also previously served on the Academy’s Board of Governors as a representative of the group’s acting branch.
Comedian Conan O’Brien will host the 97th Oscars ceremony for the first time in his career, breaking Jimmy Kimmel’s two-year streak as emcee.
The 2025 Oscars will air Sunday, March 2, on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, with the official red carpet presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
