It comes after Trump signed an executive order calling for “maximum pressure” to be applied on Iran
The United States has imposed sanctions on more than a dozen people and companies accused of helping to ship millions of barrels of Iranian oil to China every year.
The US Department of Treasury said the shipment was worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Those sanctioned include individuals and companies in China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
The Iranian regime remains focused on leveraging its oil revenues to fund the development of its nuclear program, to produce its deadly ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, and to support its regional terrorist proxy groups,” Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said.
It comes after President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order mandating the federal government to impose “maximum pressure” on Iran in a bid to stop the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The order includes efforts to drive Tehran’s oil exports down to zero.
Trump said that he believed Iran was “close” to developing a nuclear weapon.
“They’re very strong right now, and we’re not going to let them get a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
