Whoopi Goldberg strongly disagreed with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s recent criticism of weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, defending both her own and others’ use of the medication on The View.

During the Dec. 12 episode of the popular talk show, Goldberg addressed new comments from Kennedy about the GLP-1 drugs that help treat diabetes and obesity.

Kennedy spoke about the topic on CNBC, saying of the medication use, “The first line of response should be lifestyle. It should be eating well, making sure that you don’t get obese. Those GLP drugs have a place.”

This is a lighter position toward the weight loss drugs than Kennedy has previously expressed, as he boldly claimed in October, “If we just gave good food, three meals a day, to every man, woman and child in our country, we could solve the obesity and diabetes epidemic overnight.”

Goldberg disagreed with Kennedy’s sentiments, voicing her dissent on The View on Thursday as she noted statistics about the medical cost each year for treating obesity-related conditions and spoke about her personal journey using Mounjaro.

“What is the downside of a miracle drug that cuts that much out of the budget?” She questioned, before adding, “And, if someone’s doctor examines them [and] prescribes the medication, shouldn’t that be the only metric of health care coverage?”

She also accused Kennedy of “setting folks up for shame” with his claims that anyone dealing with obesity-related issues can solve them with physical activity and diet.

This isn’t just about food. Sometimes people are born genetically larger,” Goldberg went on, asserting that Kennedy’s proposed plan “doesn’t work for everybody.”

Going even further, Goldberg showed off her slimmer figure as she declared, “I weighed close to 300 [pounds] less than two years ago. And without the Mounjaro, this would not have happened.”

Finishing up her argument in support of weight loss medication, Goldberg noted that GLP-1 drugs aren’t guaranteed to work for everyone, but, “You cannot take it out of peoples’ hands if it can help. Because if we can keep people healthy, if we can get rid of diabetes, if we can get rid of all the things, cardiovascular [disease], what’s wrong with trying to do that?”

“You’re wrong on this,” concluded Goldberg in a stern message directly to Kennedy.
