Meghan Markle has divided royal fans with her latest video on Instagram, with some accusing the duchess of making it “all about herself” and being “tone-deaf”
Meghan Markle’s latest Instagram video has sparked a mixed reaction among Royal enthusiasts, with some applauding the duchess for her actions and others criticizing her. In the video, the Duchess of Sussex unveils a special present from singer Billie Eilish, given to a family devastated by the Los Angeles wildfires, an event Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, were blasted as ‘disaster tourists’ for reaching out to survivors after.
Meghan, whose Netflix future was recently addressed by a top executive at the streaming giant, recounts how she reached out to a mother and daughter who lost their home to the fires, which ravaged over 12,000 properties. She shares that among the teenage girl’s items destroyed was a Billie Eilish T-shirt left in the wash.
Meghan told her audience: “I said, ‘well, I don’t know, Billie Eilish but I’m going to figure out how to get you this shirt’.” She continues: “I thought of everybody that I knew, and I made a voice note and I was like, ‘please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish’.”
The clip shows Meghan revealing a box signed by the singer, filled with merchandise for the 15-year-old. The duchess encourages support for those impacted by the California wildfires in her post’s caption, reports the Express.
However, the gesture has split opinion, with detractors accusing her of making it “all about herself” and being “tone-deaf,” while supporters commend her “energy.”
