In a sensational revelation, Meghan Markle’s former Spotify podcast staffers reportedly gave the Duchess of Sussex a biting nickname during her time producing the now-canceled “Archetypes” series. According to royal correspondent Neil Sean, employees allegedly referred to Markle as “Eva,” a nod to Joan Crawford’s ruthless character Eva Phillips in the 1955 film Queen Bee.

The nickname, Sean claimed in an interview with Fox News, was used as a covert “warning signal” when Markle was in a demanding or difficult mood. “This wasn’t a playful pet name,” Sean explained. “Staff felt she embodied the manipulative and stinging traits of Joan Crawford’s iconic diva role.”

Inspiration behind the nickname
Eva Phillips, described in Queen Bee as a “Southern socialite whose ruthless actions destroy those around her,” became the secret moniker for the duchess, though Sean alleges Markle, 43, was unaware of the comparison.

The behind-the-scenes atmosphere was reportedly tense, with staff labeling Markle as “tough, bossy, and difficult to work with.” Some employees allegedly claimed she displayed mood swings and demanded to only communicate with top-ranking Spotify executives.

Prince Harry got a nickname too
Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, wasn’t spared from staff nicknames either. Sean claimed the Duke of Sussex, 40, was dubbed “Tim Nice But Dim,” a reference to a fictional character from British comedy known for his amiable but clueless personality.

Despite these claims, not everyone from the Spotify team shared negative experiences. Producer Jane Marie praised Markle as “a lovely, genuine person,” offering a rare counterpoint to the narrative of workplace difficulties.

The high-profile $20 million partnership between Spotify and Archewell Audio ended in 2023 after Markle produced only 12 episodes of Archetypes. While the series featured prominent guests like Serena Williams, Mindy Kaling, and Paris Hilton, insiders suggested the duchess did not deliver enough content to justify the lucrative deal.

Even after the podcast’s cancellation, Markle has not slowed down. She signed a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media in February and recently announced her Netflix cooking series, With Love, Meghan, set to premiere on March 4 after a delay due to California wildfires.
