Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of being “disrespectful” to Queen Elizabeth in the aftermath of her death, according to a Royal expert.
The Queen passed away in September 2022, but this didn’t deter the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from launching their controversial Netflix docuseries just two months later.
After attending the Queen’s funeral in the UK the couple returned to their residence in Montecito, California. Their Netflix series, titled ‘Harry and Meghan’, was filmed while the Queen’s health was reportedly deteriorating rapidly, says Royal commentator Richard Eden.
The show sparked friction within the Royal Family as Meghan and Harry alleged that they were leaking stories to the media. In the docuseries, Meghan shared her experience of meeting the Royal family for the first time.
She performed an exaggerated curtsy as she reminisced about her encounter with the late Queen. “It’s surreal. It wasn’t like some big moment of like, ‘Now you’re going to meet my grandmother,” Meghan said in the clip.
“I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before.”
Meghan Markle has faced a barrage of criticism for her exaggerated curtsy in a show, which many have interpreted as a mockery of Queen Elizabeth. Eden highlighted the “most disrespectful” parts of the docuseries as those that belittled the Commonwealth, an institution dear to the Queen’s heart.
In his Daily Mail column, he noted: “There had, of course, been no complaints from Harry or Meghan when the Queen had given them roles promoting the Commonwealth while they were still part of ‘The Firm’. Harry similarly didn’t think twice about writing his tawdry memoirs while his grandmother’s health was worsening.”
