Meghan’s new series is about making a nice home, when thousands are now without home because of the wildfires in Los Angeles, and it could create a disconnect.
Meghan Markle started the year off strong, making her return to Instagram, but now her new Netflix series may be compromised
It’s through no fault of her own, says one royal expert, who described the launch of the Duchess’ new lifestyle series as being “jinxed,” because it will follow the wildfires that continue to rage through Los Angeles.
Daily Express US reached out to talk about the natural disaster and how it may impact the Sussexes with the conversation turning to Meghan kicking off a new TV series around the same time.
Maclaran, Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, said: “Her launch seems a little jinxed as it is bound to receive more criticism and scrutiny coming at this time when so many in the area are left homeless.”
She added: “It will make her expressions of joy in the home environment seem rather trite I fear and really she would be advised to delay the launch of the Netflix program.
According to Maclaran, the timing could come across as insensitive, but in terms of programming, the decision to pull back would be up to the streamer not the talent.
Maclaran said: “I doubt this is within her power and I’m sure Netflix already have their schedule well outlined and can probably not delay at this late stage.”
Possibly Netflix can include a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen to address the timing, if it feels necessary.
