Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito home is under threat as wildfires continue to wreak havoc across California. The couple, who have lived in the “high fire risk” property with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, since 2020, may face potential evacuation and power outages as utility companies in the region warn of imminent shutdowns amid the escalating crisis.
The Mirror reported that one of the main providers in the area said they are “considering a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in parts of Santa Barbara County due to a Red Flag Warning and increased risk of wildfires”. The spokesperson also added that “affected customers,” including those in Montecito, would be notified about this development.

The implication is that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might have to leave their home to move to a safer place. As per reports, about 300,000 people have been ordered to evacuate already in Los Angeles. The fires, fueled by strong winds, also impacted Pacific Palisades, an affluent neighborhood similar to Montecito.

Meghan and Harry purchased their Montecito home back in 2020 after they left officially stepped down as senior members of the British royal family and decided to instead lead and independent life in the US. Initially, the couple relocated from Canada to California, seeking refuge in the home of their Hollywood friend Tyler Perry. That home gave Meghan and Harry a little stability amid the whole controversy. Perry’s home served as a haven during the pandemic and after their taxpayer-funded police security was removed. Perry is now the godfather of their daughter Lilibet.

As per reports, Harry and Meghan’s current mansion was valued at $14.65 million at the time, and its value has increased exponentially today; it has a market value of $29 million (£23.5 million). In an interview with The Cut magazine, Meghan confessed that during their home hunt, this place kept popping up online, but they knew that they could not afford it thus they never considered it. But, they ended up visiting the property and fell in love with it immediately.
As per the Daily Mail report, the property was built in 2003, and it was called ‘The Chateau’ and has been called a “hidden paradise”. The mansion took five years to be built and has a varied range of amenities like- a home theatre, a gym, a wet and dry sauna, a guest house with two bedrooms, a library, a home office, a garage big enough to fit five cars, a wine cellar, and an arcade.
