The Duchess of Sussex returns to Instagram with a video shot by Prince Harry

Being more online isn’t exactly a popular New Year’s resolution these days — in fact many of us are trying, and actively failing, to do the opposite. But for Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, apparently that’s not the case.

This year, it seems that Markle has decided to let fans back into her personal life.

Heralding the start of a new year on Instagram, the former actress posted her first post on a personal, non-Crown affiliated Instagram account since she closed her lifestyle blog, The Tig, and shut down her personal Instagram account ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.

The video, which was shot by Prince Harry, shows Markle wearing an all-white outfit and running down to a beachfront, where she traces the numbers 2025 into the sand and runs out of shot.

Markle’s account is entitled simply @meghan. It already has 268,000 followers, despite having only one post. She is following zero accounts.

This surprise return to Instagram comes almost five years after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made a final post on their joint page, @sussexroyal.

According to ABC News, the video was filmed by Harry on a public beach near the couple’s home in Montecito, California, where they live with their children Archie and Lilibet.

Markle’s new, laidback Instagram profile launch comes on the same day that Prince Harry was spotted taking surfing lessons in California with their son, Prince Archie. The whole thing is very Californian.

The minimalist Instagram post leaves much to the imagination as to what comes next, thought it’s sure to reinvigorate rumours that Markle is planning to resurrect her old lifestyle blog, The Tig.

These rumours started up back in March 2023, when documents filed with the US Trademark and Patent Office showed that Meghan Markle was interested in reviving her old Goop-adjacent lifestyle blog.

According to reports at the time, Markle was planning to launch a “revamped” version of her website The Tig, which she shut down in 2017 after getting engaged to Prince Harry. More progress on this project has yet to be seen… until today.

While it’s not clear exactly what the purpose of the account is, what is clear is the Sussex’s intentions to further distance themselves from the Crown’s social media presence.

This may come as a shock to some, considering recent whispers that Prince Harry was looking for a way back “in” to the Firm.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their working roles within the Royal Family five years ago after Markle became the centre of a high-profile mistreatment and racism row. They quickly moved to America, where they have been living ever since.

Markle’s projects since the Megxit scandal include a podcast series, continued work for The Archewell Foundation, and investment into an oat milk coffee company.
