Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received a lot of negative reviews for their latest Netflix project, Polo, and it’s currently unclear if their contract will be renewed
Meghan Markle is worried about her lucrative Netflix deal after her and Prince Harry’s latest series was panned by critics.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a massive $100 million contract with the streaming giant after leaving the royal family. However, the deal is yet to be renewed and some sources believe the contract could come to an end.
“It’s not just about one project, it’s a $100 million deal, they are counting on that income,” a source explained. They added, “The whispers have really hit them hard,” before noting how rumors about the contract ending have been “incredibly upsetting” for Meghan and Harry.
It’s believed Netflix is “reluctant to renew the contract,” which is due to come to an end next year. The source said Meghan is “naturally very concerned” about the situation.
However, sources also told Closer Magazine the pair are trying to “remain hopeful” and believe their Polo show will “gather momentum and prove the critics wrong.” The source added, “Netflix hasn’t dumped them yet and Meghan and Harry are holding out hope that it will never come to pass.”
Meghan and Harry’s new docuseries focuses on the elite global sport of polo and its players both on and off the field. Harry and Meghan serve as executive producers of the new show and also make a brief appearance in it.
With Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal at risk of ending next year, it is unclear what will happen to the other projects they have in development, including Meghan’s cooking show. The program finished filming in July but is yet to get a release date.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also planning to make a film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake. It’s believed they spent $3.7million acquiring the film rights to the book.
