Just two days ago as the rest of the world was celebrating Christmas the Kansas City Chiefs were busy putting a smackdown on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Patrick Mahomes and company. cruised to a 29-10 win as star tight end Travis Kelce set two career marks against the Steelers. Kelce racked up his 1,000th career reception, but, more importantly, set an all-time Chiefs mark with the 77th touchdown reception of his career, passing Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

It’s everything to me. Tony has been a mentor to me. He’s been right there for me any questions I’ve ever had,” Kelce said after the game. “I feel like I’m still trying to fill that guy’s shoes. He’s such an unbelievable competitor, and I got so much love for him, and it’s just an honor to be in [those] conversations with him.”

Kelce broke out a special celebration following the touchdown – spiking the ball over the goalpost, which is now illegal. Following the game Gonzalez sent a message to Kelce congratulating him on his achievement, which also acknowledging the dunk.

Congrats to my man @tkelce on becoming the all time @Chiefs leader in touchdowns! Keep blazing trails my friend! btw nice dunk,” Gonzalez told the new record holder in a message on social media.

The Chiefs tight end saw the message and suggested the Hall of Famer should help him pay the fine.

“You know I had to show love to the greatest of all time!! you did mention you’d help me with the fine tho,” he joked.

Kelce wasn’t the only one telling Gonzalez to pony up for the fine, though. His Prime Video teammate Charissa Thompson also issued a message to the Hall of Fame tight end to help Kelce out.
