Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany can focus on having their third baby after his Kansas City Chiefs locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

On Christmas Day, the Chiefs clinched the first seed in the AFC by dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers and securing a 29-10 victory. Mahomes torched the vaunted Steelers defense, throwing for over 320 yards with three touchdowns – including a historic moment for Travis Kelce – as the Chiefs secured home-field advantage through the postseason.

In his post-game interview, Mahomes sent a message to his pregnant wife Brittany. After being named a Christmas MVP alongside Kelce, who reacted by clapping along, Mahomes said: “I told my wife I was gonna get her the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby. And we got the one seed.”

Brittany was watching on as Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory. The 29-year-old posted a series of snaps to her Instagram Stories from her Christmas celebration spent with three-year-old daughter Sterling Skye and two-year-old son Bronze.

Brittany, a co-owner of the National Women’s Soccer League club Kansas City Current, followed along with the action on Netflix. In one video, Sterling could be seen smiling and mixing ingredients in a bowl, with a caption reading: “Baking and watching daddy” – along with a heart emoji.

Next, Brittany shared a selfie of the mother-daughter duo posing in their matching flannel pajamas. She also posted a photo of herself cuddling with Bronze on the sofa, captioning the post: “Game day snuggles.”

For the Chiefs, the win comes at the end of a rough stretch of three games in 11 days. Kansas City are now set to get an extended rest, with their next game – their final regular season contest of the season – coming against the Denver Broncos next week.

With the No. 1 seed already secured, the Chiefs could rest their starters for the trip to Denver before enjoying a bye during Super Wild Card weekend. This means the likes of Mahomes can rest up until the Divisional Round of the playoffs, which is expected to come on either Jan. 18 or Jan. 19 – a potential break of 23 days.

It’s an ideal scenario for Mahomes, who has been battling a high ankle sprain in recent weeks. The three-time Super Bowl champion can now rest up and be at his spellbinding best come the playoffs.
