Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs made a new court appearance on Wednesday.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson told the court on Dec. 18 that the investigation into Diddy is still ongoing. However, she added that there are no plans to derail the trial date. If new charges are brought against Diddy, though, Johnson admitted that “any additional charges will have little discovery information” due to the quick turnaround needed. Diddy’s jury trial is slated to begin on May 5, 2025 with the discovery deadline set to expire at the end of this year.
The rapper faces sex trafficking charges after a federal indictment by grand jury which comes after a lengthy investigation by the United States government. Prosecutors allege Diddy hosted “freak off” orgy-like parties which included drugs and sexual misconduct. Moreover, they hit him with racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy pled not guilty to all charges against him.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement at the time: “As alleged in the Indictment, for years, Sean Combs used the business empire he controlled to sexually abuse and exploit women, as well as to commit other acts of violence and obstruction of justice. Today, he is charged with racketeering and sex trafficking offenses. If you have been a victim of Combs’ alleged abuse – or if you know anything about his alleged crimes – we urge you to come forward. This investigation is far from over.”
During court appearances, the music mogul no longer appears in shackles; a decision made by the judge after the defense argued media attention on Diddy’s garb could cause a biased jury in the future.
His legal woes began in late 2023 when his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, filed a civil lawsuit which alleged abuse. However, Diddy immediately denied the allegations, but settled the suit out of court within a day with no admission of wrongdoing. Months later, a video surfaced of him beating Cassie in a hotel hallway for which he took “responsibility” for in a statement.
Additional lawsuits poured in with similar allegations which Diddy profusely denied. Texas attorney Tony Buzbee vowed to file over 100 lawsuits against the Bad Boy business man on behalf of his clients.
