A new Netflix special from actor Jamie Foxx revealed he suffered a “brain bleed that led to a stroke” before disappearing from the public eye for months in 2023 and addressed some of the more rampant rumors that speculated on the cause of his mysterious health crisis—including unsubstantiated claims Sean “Diddy” Combs was somehow involved.

Netflix released the “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…” special, which was filmed while the actor and comedian performed three live stand-up comedy shows in Atlanta in early October, on Tuesday.

In the weeks leading up to its release, speculation surfaced that Foxx would finally reveal the cause of the lengthy hospitalization he said led him to forget 20 days of his life and that he would address rumors his illness was connected to Combs, the music industry mogul currently facing an onslaught of sexual misconduct and other allegations

On stage, Foxx addressed the allegations that Combs “was trying to kill me”—claims that were amplified when producer Arthur Alston and podcaster Joe Rogan repeated them leading up to the special’s release—but brushed them off in jest.

He also joked about the “freak-off” parties Combs is alleged to have hosted in Hollywood for decades—where most of his accusers say they were drugged and sexually assaulted—saying, “Hell no, I left them parties early. I was out by 9, something don’t look right. It’s slippery in here.”

He also jokingly compared Combs to the “devil” and referenced the federal government seizing “more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant” during raids on Combs’ property.

Alston, who goes by the name “Choke No Joke,” told Comedy Hype last month he attended two of the live shows for the Netflix special and reported Foxx said “Diddy was responsible for what happened … and [Foxx] is the one who called the FBI on him.”

Combs’ team called the rumors “outlandish, ridiculous and baseless” in a statement to music industry website AllHipHop, and denied any connection between Foxx and Diddy’s case and subsequent arrest.

Foxx’s medical issues have been a point of public curiosity since April 2023 when his daughter, Corinne Foxx, shared he was recovering from a “medical complication” but did not elaborate on the exact medical concern. Months later, Foxx posted he was “finally startin to feel like myself” after an “unexpected dark journey.” He again spoke about the medical emergency in July, saying it started with a “bad headache” and that he doesn’t remember the first 20 days of his illness. In the Netflix special, Foxx said he asked friends for aspirin for a headache before blacking out. He said he went to a doctor in Atlanta who gave him a cortisone shot and then “sent me home,” joking “I don’t know if you can do Yelpsfor doctors, but that’s half a star.” His sister then took him to a hospital, where a doctor told her he needed emergency brain surgery: “If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him,” Foxx recalled the doctor saying. He said he woke up 20 days later, on May 4, 2023, in a wheelchair.

Foxx is known to have been a longtime friend of Combs—Diddy told Time Magazine in 2010 that he, Foxx and actor Ashton Kutcher were “a rat pack, hanging out, going to clubs”—but he has not been publicly connected to Combs’ alleged misconduct, nor has he commented on Combs’ arrest outside of the Netflix special. Combs has faced an onslaught of abuse, sexual assault and other allegations in the last year and is currently in federal custody as he awaits trial on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. In dozens of civil lawsuits filed against the star, accusers say he had a pattern of throwing elaborate parties, drugging attendees and sexually assaulting them while they were unconscious or unable to consent.On Sunday, an unnamed Alabama woman amended her complaint against Combs to include rapper and businessman Jay-Z, claiming the pair raped her when she was 13 years old more than 20 years ago. Both Combs and Jay-Z have denied the claims.
